Beethoven’s 5th

Listening to music such as Beethoven or Mozart before falling asleep (or anytime) will not make one smarter. Plugging your baby’s ears up to the 9th symphony and forcing them to sit through it won’t increase brain cells or their functioning. However, listening to it at night, before falling asleep can promote healthier sleeping habits. Music in general that is calm in nature will aid in synchronizing brain waves with your tunes, slowing them down in order to put you to sleep faster. Many people turn to ASMR videos and sounds of nature, which are awesome ideas, so long as it gets the job done.

Getting a good night’s sleep is essential in order to perform tasks during your day-to-day routine. Even simple tasks such as fetching the newspaper in the morning require brain function, and without a good night’s sleep, your brain will not receive the proper restoration that it needs to continue learning and growing and developing. Sure you can wake yourself up with vices such as coffee and other various medications, but none are quite as healthy as what getting proper rest will bring. Getting to sleep is always the hard part, especially if you just aren’t exhausted; however, if you have an early morning ahead of you and it is past ten-o-clock, you might want to put whatever you are doing on pause and start winding yourself down.

Winding down at night can be hard, sometimes you just can’t fall asleep! Too much on your mind and what not, but there can never be any harm in relaxing in general. So take a warm bath, read a good book, shut your eyes for one loooooooooooooong second and ponder why your are so stressed. Then release, and try and sleep. Play some calming, gentle music that will rock you into your dreams like a soft lullaby. Feel your eyes grow heavier as Mozart’s Requiem infiltrates your brain, making you feel sophisticated, but also making you feel drowsy, because don’t the two go hand and hand?

Assuring that your comfortable in your own bed is important. Waking up soaking wet in sweat is never a good thing so it might be a good idea to check out some breathable fibers that will prevent just that. Also, like waking up sweating, you also want to prevent to opposite. Sleeping in a room that is too cold is just too much. There is no sense in sleeping in a room that you won’t feel comfortable crawling out from beneath your blankets in the morning so assure that your temperature is set to around 69 degrees, because you don’t want it to get too hot, nor do you want it to get too cold.

So wind down, pump some calming beats, and let the delta waves flood your head.
