EcoScene Selects La’Noodle as Top 5 at DC GreenFest

jt-lanoodle.jpg

Ecoscene is an online website and weekly e-magazine that encourages people to choose eco-friendly options…. to “go greener” by providing better access to sustainable products and services.

Apparently these folks evaluated products offered at Coop America’s Washington DC Green Festival, and the CozyPure® La’Noodle Pillow was selected as one of the Top 5 most intriguing green products. Thanks for the kudos!

The above image is our very own JT hugging the La’Noodle. Part of JT’s job is supervising the production of our organic bedding — including the La’Noodle Pillows. The other part of her job is spent finalizing patterns and making spec sheets. JT enjoys listening to classic rock. She also enjoys teasing Rex.

DC Greenfestival was Organic Comfort for Us…

WOW!! It was so GREAT this past weekend at the Washington, DC Greenfestival. I’m glad we decided to go, even if it was last minute and thrown together so quickly. We just finished a 3-week local home show in Virginia Beach, so we weren’t sure we could squeeze the Greenfestival into the schedule but four days beforehand we voted “YEAH” and went. I want to thank Hans, Cris and Rex for getting there to setup and take care of things. They arranged our Cozy Caress organic mattress, stacked layered Cozy Cabin organic beds, a few bins of organic cotton loungewear, and LOTS of natural latex organic pillows. Considering this was all arranged in only one-week, they did a TERRIFIC job. My daughter and I drove up late Saturday afternoon to enjoy the last-half of the festival.

dc-greenfest.jpg

We were chilling-out in our organic cotton sleepwear – and you folks really seemed to love it! Thank you for the compliments on our booth and on our products. One woman commented that “this is what heaven would be like.” What a job we have… lounging around, laughing, chit-chat with our customers and always in an ultimate organic comfort zone. It was a really fun time. We SO MUCH enjoyed meeting and greeting the show visitors and speaking to you about the benefits of CozyPure bedding – better for your health and better for the environment.

Proving again to be our best-selling “got to have” organic bedding accessory…. We took one-hundred CozyPure® La’Noodle organic pillows and we only had three left at the end of show. Loved the elderly couple who returned Sunday for a second La’Noodle (they bought one Saturday). They even sang a little “La-La-La Noodle” jingle. It was wonderful. And then there was little Emily…

Emily was a darling four-year old who propped herself down on our layered Cozy Cabin organic cot beds and proclaimed “This is MY bed!” Ironically, mom and dad were looking for Emily’s new “big girl” bed. They were able to buy both of them Sunday night at the end of the show and tote them away in their Prius.

Speaking of…. Rex had to leave so I carpooled everyone back to Norfolk, Virginia in my Prius. We calculated a total cost of $15 in gas roundtrip. I love my car! I wish there was a bridge across the Atlantic Ocean .

Homearama

A rush of excitement is in the air here at Organic Comfort Zone as we prepare for the 2008 Hampton Roads Homearama show in Virginia Beach.

Our wonderful products have been selected to be featured inside the “green” house, which is the largest home featured this year, boasting over 6,500. “The Mothership” is a Georgian style home with 5 bedrooms and 6 ½ baths built by Miller Custom Homes. Look for our CozyPure® mattresses is every bedroom except the nursery. This is an outstanding way for us to display and for you view our products in an exceptional environment.

Homearama mothership

Homearama is an educational and pleasurable way to spend an afternoon and for eco-minded folks, “The Mothership” enhances the experience. “The Mothership” is an EarthCraft certified green house, built with PolySteel insulating concrete forms, features green products such as solar panels that sell electricity back to the power company, greywater recycling system, geothermal HVAC, whole-house backup generator, conditioned attic, simulated slate 50-year recycled rubber shingles and tankless water heaters. Builder offers guaranteed $115-a-month utility bill. It also offers amenities such as a meditation labyrinth sponsored by the Edgar Cayce Foundation, outdoor kitchen, large entertainment room, steam shower in the master suite, four covered porches, conditioned wine room and safe room. Slumber

Is your pillow making you sick? Mine was and I didn’t even realize it.

“Here, take this home and try it” Cheryl said to me shortly after I started here at Organic Comfort Zone and handed me a pillow. “It’s our new product, the La’Noodle pillow.”

Not meaning to seem ungrateful I thanked her and took my gift home … but honestly, I was unsure. The La’Noodle pillow seemed heavier and bulkier than any pillow I had used previously. I was concerned about how my head might sink into it. I was worried that there was not enough support for my neck.

Despite my concerns, I took my La’Noodle pillow to bed with me.

To my surprise, the pillow allowed my much more privilege of positioning than I imagined. My La’Noodle contoured to my needs and remained obediently positioned. I slept like a kitten that had a long day of play – deep and sound, however, the real surprise came in the morning.

Like many people in this southern beach community, I am plagued with allergies. Part of my morning ritual is sinus medication – or at least it was.

This first morning after sleeping on my La’Noodle, I awoke to find no sinus pressure, none of that groggy allergy feeling – nothing – I felt normal. I shrugged it off as a low-pollen count day. The following day, my experience was the same – no need for sinus meds.

Months have passed – I’m not saying that I’m completely without a sneeze or cough, but for certain, my morning congestion and head ache no longer exist. My La’Noodle pillow has contributed greatly to my well being – thanks again Cheryl!

pillow-lanoodle-noodles.jpg

Here’s the question – I know that my La’Noodle pillow is made from natural latex noodles that are surrounded by organic cotton stretch knit – but what was I sleeping on? And an even worse thought – what was growing inside my old pillow? Yuk.

Not surprisingly, the La’Noodle pillow has become a customer favorite here at the Organic Comfort Zone. It’s difficult to keep them in stock. For me this pillow brings me one step closer to a healthier, happier and more organic lifestyle.

If you suffer like I did, give one of these pillows a try! And sweet dreams!

Sleep and Health

Sleep…..

It refreshes us like nothing else. It can be occasionally elusive, almost always comforting, and definitely essential to our survival. And although we spend 33% of our lives asleep, we barely give it a moment’s notice….until we can’t sleep. Then we think about it to the point of obsession.

For millions of people, the consequences of a poor night’s sleep – higher stress, increased mistakes, difficulty concentrating – are every day occurrences.
We all have too much to do, so take time out and recharge yourself by getting a good night’s sleep. The quality and quantity of your sleep can make all the difference in how productive you’ll be the next day. Here are ten tips to help you get the sleep you need and deserve.

  • Maintain a regular bed and wake time schedule, including weekends.
  • Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine such as soaking in a hot bath or hot tub and then reading a book or listening to soothing music.
  • Create a sleep-conducive environment that is dark, quiet, comfortable and cool.
  • Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows.
  • Use your bedroom only for sleep and sex. It is best to take work materials, computers and televisions out of the sleeping environment.
  • Finish eating at least two to three hours before your regular bedtime.
  • Exercise regularly. It is best to complete your workout at least a few hours before bedtime.
  • Avoid nicotine (e.g., cigarettes, tobacco products). Used close to bedtime, it can lead to poor sleep.
  • Avoid caffeine (e.g., coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate) close to bedtime. It can keep you awake.
  • Avoid alcohol close to bedtime. It can lead to disrupted sleep later in the night.

Craig Moeller of WVEC Channel 13-ABC, stopped by our shop to do a quick broadcast on the eco-benefits of our CozyPure® organic mattresses and bedding. It was a pleasure talking with Craig, who is an expert on global warming, and shows a genuine interest of the environmental-impact of everyday living.

Organic Comfort Catwalk

It was a gorgeous day at Mt Trashmore Sunday! The weather was wonderful which is so important for outdoor events. The models had fun strutting their stuff to our Chill Out Naturally® song (15 minute rock version), and they looked great. Here’s some pics of them wearing our EcoAveUsa organic cotton sleepwear and hugging the CozyPure® organic pillows. This is what they wore for the finale’ when they all came out on stage together and had a pillow fight.

We had to modify our Chill Out Naturally® jingle into a 15 minute version, so we changed it up a bit and added a more rock beat. If you want to listen, here it is (it’s LONG):

  • For the Earth Day event at Mt Trashmore, I’ll be doing a presentation about how our home textiles (particularly in the bedroom) really can make a positive environmental-impact.

Yippee! I made the annual top-twenty green list for the seven cities of Hampton Roads, at least according to Portfolio Weekly newspaper. Thanks for the vote Portfolio… a newspaper we’ve been featured in before and that covers more progressive news.
