Green Living Miscellaneous Natural Bedroom Organic Comfort Sleep Tips

Can’t Sleep?

Are you finding it difficult to fall asleep when the lights are finally turned out at night?
Is it difficult to stay asleep for the entire period of the night?
Here are some easy tips that can help to ensure your quality and quantity of rest:

1. Turn down the lights!
It can not be said enough that the amount of light reaching the retina can either
increase or decrease one's melatonin production which will determine a person's ability
to fall asleep quickly.
                                            eco-wool-Haven
2. Avoid drugs such as caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
While it may seem rather obvious as to why one must avoid such stimulants as caffeine
and nicotine - because they are stimulants and they excite neural activity - the reason
behind why consuming alcohol before bed time may seem less clear. Because alcohol is a
depressant it works as an aid to SLOW neural activity and for many people it may help
in putting them to sleep; however, because alcohol is unnatural to the human body it will
disrupt one's internal biological clock and perhaps reset his or her sleep schedule.
In other words, we do not experience the basic sleep cycles while intoxicated as we would
sober. Also, drugs inhibit REM sleep, which is dream sleep, and in dreaming one's memory is
created to a certain degree and with these depressants a person is susceptible blacking
out and doing things they shouldn't then waking up without any recollection of it!

3. Create comforting pre-sleep routines
As bedtime approaches a person may want to indulge in activities that sooth
brain activity. These activities will be as simple as reading a book, taking a
bath, and watching T.V. (though try to refrain from light emitting screens in
the ten minutes before sleep). Activities to avoid would be ones that involve
physical labor, and stress.

4. Assure a normal sleep schedule:
In order for your body to rest easier it is imperative that one gets the same number
of hours of sleep per night and that they go to bed and wake up at particular times.
This is so that your body has time to wake up and get tired again all in a normal days cycle.

5. Exercise regularly:
While exercising in the hour before sleep is not ideal - because is gets blood rushing
to all parts of one's body, making them feel alive - a good workout at some point during the
day would not go unrewarded. For one maintaining healthy habits such as these is good
practice, but also it fatigues your body, making a person more tired.

6. Manage shift work:
What this means is only that if you are working the night shift multiple times
in a row you may be prone to sleep debt. Trying to work out your schedule so that you
are not losing so much sleep will be a good thing, but if this can not be done try to
create a dark atmosphere to your bedroom - dark curtains/shades, dark paint, low light,
and other things of that nature that can stimulate melatonin production in the brain.

7. COMFORT!
Finally we've reached our final tip and that is to assure that your body is
comfortable when trying to fall asleep. In the long winter months a thick wool comforter
will help in maintaining the appropriate body temperature with making a person sweat or
freeze to death. Sleeping on organic fibers such as cotton aid in natural comfort and
promotes deeper sleep, making it less likely for a person to awake in the middle of the night.

So there you have it, 7 tips that can help to eliminate stress and set your body back on track
to a natural sleep cycle - best of luck!

How Many Pillows Do You Need to Sleep Better?

How many pillows do you need for a good night’s sleep? Are you fine with just one pillow or do you need more to get that right amount of softness and comfort? We have heard answers that range from one pillow to around six! The use (or overuse) of pillows can be a contributing factor to missing out on sleep.

If prefer to sleep with more than one pillow, make sure you don’t turn your neck at an uncomfortable angle while you sleep. Poor sleep posture can cause you to wake up with neck pain or other soreness. Incorrect use of pillows can also contribute to sleep apnea, a dangerous disorder that cuts off your breathing while you sleep.

The age of your pillows can affect your sleep as well. A dusty, old pillow that has gone flat from years of use does not provide proper head and neck support can ruin your sleep, no matter how many you pile up to sleep on.

Here are the features to look for in your next pillow:

A quality cover – A pillow cover should be durable and clean. Materials such as organic cotton are softer and allow for proper air flow. This keeps your head at a comfortable temperature and can help reduce insomnia.

Supportive filler material – The inside of an old pillow can be a home for mold, mildew and dust mites. Pure latex is resilient inner material for pillows and does not attract mites or mold. The inside of your pillow should be supportive and shape itself to accommodate your head for a customized fit.

Proper height – A pillow that is too high or low will tilt your head too far in one direction. If you are sensitive or particular to the fill, then look for the option to unzip the pillow and adjust the height by adding or removing the filling materials

Suited to your sleeping position – If you prefer sleeping on your side rather than your back, your pillow should be designed with your favorite sleeping position in mind. You may even need more than one pillow, especially if you’re a multi-tasker like our President and CEO Cheryl Hahn:

I have a larger, denser wool pillow propped up against my headboard that I angle very slightly. Then I have my regular-fill standard size LaNoodle pillow in front of that, which I use as my “primary sleep pillow”. Since I read every night before turning out the light, the larger pillow is nice for that extra support. When I’m ready to sleep, I mostly use the LaNoodle but the larger pillow angled just a little bit gives me that “wedge” type of support I like since I’m mostly a side sleeper and I can scrunch my LaNoodle Pillow to work perfectly whether I’m reading, sleeping on my side or turn on my back. Pillows are so personal and everyone has unique comfort, you just have to find what works best for you.

You may need one pillow or a combination of pillows to get your perfect sleep. Either way, you should definitely consider a pillow made from premium materials that last. Don’t sacrifice price for quality.

Cool Your Head While Sleeping – Use an Organic Pillow

Does a hot head prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep?

Having to flip your pillow over in search of that elusive cool spot is more than just uncomfortable, experts say it can contribute to insomnia and cause you to miss out on precious sleep time. This can be an even bigger problem during the summer months. Even with air conditioning, the wrong type of pillow can make your head feel hot and sweaty.

While an organic pillow can’t cure insomnia, a pillow made from organic cotton and latex can help lower the heat around your head and give you a better chance to get a good night’s sleep.

One example is the CozyPure® Pure Performance Pillow, made from a silky soft organic cotton sateen fabric. Our 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton fabric is breathable, offering more airflow and a cooler sleep than synthetic blend pillows and allowing body heat to dissipate easily.

Inside the CozyPure® Pure Performance Pillow are pure latex noodles. Pure latex does not retain heat in the same way blended foams or synthetic batting do. The spaces between the latex noodles also assist with airflow and cooling your head. They also provide support, to cradle your head and neck for individual comfort.

Organic cotton fabrics combined with pure natural fillings provide the ultimate in sleep quality and comfort.

The Mattress for Athletes

The Mind of an Athlete: Play, Eat and Sleep… but What Are You Sleeping On?

If you are a true athlete you want to be the best. You eat healthy and get the correct amount of sleep, but did you ever realize that the mattress you sleep on everyday could be a reason why you don’t win your game? If you want to improve your performance evaluating your mattress is a great place to start. Ask yourself, is it performing the way you expect a top athlete? The Better Sleep Council recommends replacing your mattress if:

  • You wake up with stiffness, numbness, aches and pains
  • You had a better night’s sleep somewhere other than your own bed (such as  a hotel)
  • Your mattress shows visible signs of overuse (sagging, lumps, exposed interior)
  • Your mattress is 5-7 years old

“Similar to your favorite old chair or worn pair of shoes, your mattress can still feel comfortable long after it has lost its ability to provide your body with the proper support and comfort it needs.  Because sleep is so critical to our ability to function and feel our best, it is important to evaluate your sleep set on a regular basis.” — The Sleep Counsel

Few people are aware but regular mattresses can breed mold, mildew and dust mites causing moderate to severe allergic reactions for some people. In conventional mattresses, manufacturers use toxic chemicals like polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), a class of synthetic chemicals as flame retardants. Disturbing concentrations of this chemical has been found in human blood and breast milk – a major human health concern.

With all the health risks of traditional mattresses it is common that athletes or highly active people try to find alternative sleep systems that will provide their body a safe, relaxed and optimum night’s sleep. Organic latex mattresses are the answer. They are resistant to dust mites, mold and mildew, and contains no PBDE’s. Instead, this organic latex sleep system uses natural wool or other plant based batting as a fire retardant. The consumer isn’t absorbing harmful chemicals or allergens; it is natural, safe and comfortable.

The 5-Zone Organic Latex Mattress

Some specialty organic mattress and bedding companies manufacture their product with the 5-Zone natural latex mattress. Unlike other mattresses it contains a core that divides into 5 comfort zones (Head, shoulders, lumbar, legs & feet). This extremely durable core will last for years along with giving you energy and making your sleep as comfortable as possible. When sleeping, your body should have the same alignment as if you were walking. The 5-Zone natural latex core helps the body achieve this recommended position.

Think of your body in 5 parts: Head, shoulders, lumbar, legs & feet. To perfectly align your spine you would want to target your shoulders and lumbar region. Your shoulders are a large bony structure, but are not as heavy as the lumbar region which holds your stomach, hips and bottom. The 5-Zone is designed to support those heavier areas of the body while still being comfortable. Each zone has a different ILD (Indentation Load Density) giving each section of latex the correct level of density that will keep you body aligned with your spine. This means that the mattress is firmer near your lumbar area than your shoulders, head and legs.

Keeping your body healthy is the highest priority to an athlete. What better way to keep your body healthy than to protect what your body needs the most…SLEEP. Choosing an organic latex mattress is the best way to ensure your body is at its optimum performance for game day.

Have questions? Call one of our sleep specialists at 800.229.7571. We would love to assist you with finding the correct mattress that fits your needs.

Think Green About What You Are Sleeping On

At CozyPure, we like to celebrate “green” all the time and not just on St. Patrick’s Day by celebrating “green sleep.” What’s better than that? When you walk into your bedroom ask yourself “how green is my sleep system?”

There is nothing like the feeling of sleeping on all natural materials. Cuddling up with a body pillow made from latex noodles gives me a safe feeling because I know exactly what I’m resting my head on, 100% natural latex and GOTS certified organic cotton. I don’t wake up in the middle of the night sweating and uncomfortable because of my bed. I wake up well rested and completely dry because my mattress is not made from uncomfortable fibers like polyester.  I’m not worried about what chemicals are in my mattress anymore because its all natural latex and wool.

If its difficult to find one natural element in your bedroom its time for a change. The easiest way to start is with your bed. Change your hot polyester sheets and pillows to breathable organic cotton and wool. Next, switch your sweat absorbing, uncomfortable, unsafe mattress to a natural 5 zone latex mattress that is able to wick away moisture and isn’t in contact with toxic chemicals in its manufacturing process. The 5 zones in the mattress will also give you more support in the heavier parts of your body giving you more energy when waking up.

After transforming your sleep system to being completely safe and all natural focus on the rest of your room. When you’re preparing to sleep is your room temperature at the recommended temperature of 65-70 degrees? People sleep best when its dark so make sure the drapes are shut completely to block street lights or a full moon from ruining your sleep.

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is fun. You get to wear green, watch parades with friends and relax. Just remember to continue to “think green” because  it might be a little more difficult to relax if you are resting on the wrong materials.

The low-down on Good, Better, Best Latex Mattresses

The first thing customers ask about our mattresses is “Which one is good, better and best?”.

Our answer, “They are all our best mattresses.”

It may be hard to believe, but it’s the 100% truth. The average consumer is surrounded by businesses that advertise by having  their best product as the most expensive and their inferior product as the lowest price. It’s only natural for a customer to visit our showroom or website and expect the same.

All of the CozyPure® mattresses are built with the zoned natural latex performance core. This extremely durable core will last for YEARS along with giving you energy and making your good night’s sleep as comfortable as possible. When sleeping, your body should have the same alignment as if you were walking.  Our 5-Zone natural latex core helps  your body get in this recommended position.

Think of your body in 5 parts: Head, shoulders, lumbar, legs & feet. To perfectly align your spine you would want to target your shoulders and lumbar region. Your shoulders are a large bony structure but is not as heavy as the lumbar region which holds your stomach, hips and bottom. The 5-Zone is designed to support those heavier areas of the body while still being comfortable. Each zone has a different ILD (Indentation Load Density) giving each section of latex the correct level of density that will keep your body aligned with your spine. This means that the mattress is firmer near your lumbar area than your shoulders, head and legs.

In addition to using the Performance Core in our mattresses, we also cover all our mattresses with GOTS-certified organic cotton matelasse with pure wool quilted underneath.

Here are a few of the most popular natural latex organic mattress options provided by CozyPure®:

1. Pure Performance Core Support Natural Latex Organic Mattress

4. Pure Performance Perfection Natural Organic Mattress

5. CozyPure® Luxury Hotel Collection

  • 10” Natural Latex Plush Mattress with organic cotton and wool cover  OR
  • 8” Natural Latex Cush Mattress with organic and wool cover
  • Natural latex LaNoodle Cuddle Top
  • Hand -Tied European Style 100% wool comforter
  • 2 Natural Latex Standard Size LaNoodle Pillows
  • 100% Certified Organic Cotton Sateen Duvet Cover
  • 100% Certified Organic Cotton Percale Fitted Sheet
  • 100% Certified Organic Cotton Percale Flat Sheet
  • 100% Certified Organic Cotton Percale Pillowcases

CozyPure® mattresses are designed with the customers comfort in mind. Everyone has a different comfort level so don’t be fooled into thinking that the highest priced mattress is the best option for your comfort.

The truth with latex mattresses is that latex is a premium, costly component (but worth every penny). And it’s really pretty simple: the more latex you add to the mattress, the more expensive the mattress becomes.

How To Unroll Your CozyPure LaNoodle Cuddle Top Latex Mattress Topper [VIDEO]

Costumers sometimes call and ask why their LaNoodles in their LaNoodle Cuddle Topper are not evenly spread out. Answer is most of the time the solution is something as little as watching the way you unroll the topper on your mattress. Sometimes when customers receive their topper they are excited and pick it up by one corner. When this happens the LaNoodles will bunch up and leave your topper empty in some places.

In this video Patti explains the proper way to set your CozyPure LaNoodle Cuddle Top Latex Topper on your mattress.

1. Remove bed sheets and place your CozyPure LaNoodle Cuddle Top at the foot of your mattress so that when it’s untied it will roll forward.

2. Untie the cotton bands and carefully roll it towards the headboard.

3. Gently smooth your hands over the surface to evenly disperse the LaNoodles.

4. Place fitted sheets over the top of your Cuddle Top to protect it and help keep it in place.

5. To remove, we recommend following directions in reverse (roll your Cuddle Top for transport).

Repeat step 3 each week when changing your linens (gently smooth and disperse the LaNoodles). Do not place in washer or dryer. If necessary, spot clean spills and stains.

CozyPure Latex LaNoodle Mattress Topper Comparison to Competitor [VIDEO]

We decided to order a competitors latex mattress topper and compare it to our LaNoodle Mattress Topper.

In the first part of the video I am testing the comfort level of the  competitors topper. I automatically notice a big difference between our LaNoodle Mattress Topper than the competitors. It felt more dense and had stitching that confines the inside materials to one spot. The box stitching also caused multiple uncomfortable dips in the topper that made my body fall in them.

When I compared it to the LaNoodle Topper I saw a great difference. The topper was softer and I could feel the LaNoodles moving freely to adjust to my individual comfort.

In the second half of the video Cheryl opens the competitors mattress topper and shows that inside appears to be inconsistent crumbs of leftover latex or residual latex scrapings. There were pieces of hard and soft latex crumbs mixed together with some that were even paper thin.

When you compare the LaNoodle to the latex crumbs you will find that having the consistent type of latex makes a difference on the level of softness and comfort when you sleep. Hopefully by watching this video we can help others make informed decisions when they decide to purchase other “natural latex” products.

Sometimes its best to just speak with the experts. Give us a call at 800-229-7971

New! CozyPure Performance LaNoodle Latex Contour Pillow

This morning I walk into the office and our owner, Cheryl astounds me again with a new product she has created. She introduces me to a contour pillow that will be added to the CozyPure Pure Performance collection. The pillow is hand tufted and hand tied to provide comfortable support to the head and neck all night. The CozyPure Pure Performance LaNoodle Latex Contour Pillow is made from a silky soft organic sateen fabric which allows the latex to actually MOVE under the fabric. Every move you make the LaNoodle Contour Pillow will cradle your head perfectly. To make things even better there is also a zipper so you can fully customize the fill to your exact preference.

In the video below you will see Patti talk about using our LaNoodle Contour Pillow. She’s had on-going neck problems for years and needs the therapeutic benefits of a contour pillow to properly support her head and neck. Because of Patti’s pre-existing condition she was the perfect candidate to test and confirm if our new contour pillow works – and she is happy to report she can move her neck more freely after sleeping with our pillow.

There you have it! The CozyPure Pure Performance LaNoodle Pillow is available NOW. Try one out for yourself.

What’s Inside Your Pillow?

Many times customers call to compare our pillows to what they think are similar products which they’ve purchased in the past from other companies. According to our customers the products aren’t as comfortable as they hoped and they worry that our pillow will be the same. Organic Comfort Zone believes in being honest with our customers because we believe our CozyPure products speak for themselves when they are compared with other brands.

In efforts to put our customers at ease, we have decided to perform a test with a few brands that were brought to our attention. Look for yourself:

Oodles Pillow
This brand claims to have real latex noodles similar to our LaNoodle pillow.
In this photo you will see that half the pillow is filled with balls of synthetic polyester
batting and the “Oodles” are actually half latex and half foam (it’s very lumpy).
The outside quilted shell fabric is cotton on the top but with polyester backing.

Our CozyPure LaNoodles are the real deal. All latex, all the time. See below…

CozyPure

the “MyPillow” brand pillow

This company labels The MyPillow as Americas “favorite” pillow. They say that the pillow is filled with their “patented,
medical grade polyfoam with antimicrobial and nonallergic properties”. In other words… ordinary shredded foam.

the ” Luxury Support Micro-Cushion” Latex Pillows

We opened this pillow and as you can see the pillow is filled with latex. However, the latex is blocked and stiff.
The latex used in this pillow are scraps and is shredded which is fairly common with some pillows but the shredding process here is more cut-up because there are large chunks of latex (instead of finely shredded) and the chunks are of various sizes and different firmness making the pillow feel pretty lumpy and uncomfortable.

CozyPure

Both our CozyPure LaNoodle Pillow and Pure Performance pillow are made with 100% natural latex (no synthetic batting or foams blended). This creamy latex provides SOFT and RESILIENT support for your head and neck. And of course, it’s covered in 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton so your pillow breathes and you won’t get a hot head.

We opened these three pillows because they were the ones most people would call and compare our LaNoodle pillow to, and they were worried they wouldn’t like it, since they didn’t like these three pillows. We hope you can see that they are VERY different pillows, and we hope this helps you decide for yourself.

We believe in giving you a product that will last you for YEARS. We want you to be happy with your purchase and to rest assured that you are getting a quality product. If you’re worried about what’s in your pillow, you can perform this same test at home. Open your pillow and have a peek inside and ask yourself this question: Is this really what I paid for?
