Please read the following rules and regulations before you submit your project. Review them with your parent, teacher, or mentor. Follow the rules and complete the forms as required. Failure to do so may disqualify your entry.

If you are now 14, the project must have started when you were age 13. Children of employees of Organic Comfort Zone are not eligible to enter the Hampton Roads Young Eco-SuperHero Awards.
Entry Rules
Each student may submit only one entry.
The essay, research project, poetry, art work, social or environmental project must be the work of a single student. Group projects are ineligible.
Projects based on studies conducted by a class, a summer institute, summer camp, student research program, or environmental program are eligible as long as the student conducted his or her own research or creative endeavors. The key is to demonstrate the student's independence and creativity.
Submissions must be the creations of young people between the ages of 6-13 who are residents of Hampton Roads, VA which include the cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Hampton, Suffolk, and Newport News.
All artwork, essays, compositions and research projects must be done by the student. All submissions must include the Organic Comfort Zone Eco-SuperHero entry form. Students must complete the form and have it signed by the supervising parent, guardian, teacher, or mentor.
All projects must be conducted according to state and national laws and regulations. For example, the collecting of specimens, even fallen leaves, in many state and national parks is prohibited. Students are allowed to observe plants and animals in their natural habitats so long as they do not cause them harm, stress, discomfort, or pain.
Projects involving live vertebrate and invertebrate experimentation must be conducted in an ethical manner. Deliberately exposing an animal to poison or a toxic material, harming an animal or causing it stress (for example, trampling an ants' nest, putting an animal in a tank with a predator, or putting butterfly pupae in a refrigerator) is not permitted.
Entries for the 2008 Hampton Roads Eco-SuperHero contest must be submitted on or before May 31, 2008. How Will My Entry Be Judged?
Your project will be judged alongside the projects submitted by other entries. Judges will consider your project according to the following:
Topic
Judges look for an interesting and original topic. The topic does not have to be original to the science community, just new to you. It should be a topic that excites you, one that motivates you to investigate it.
Procedure
Judges look for strong, solid, and creative projects that clearly demonstrate your contribution to environmental causes. Your project could be based on energy conservation, recycling or telling others about environmental issues.
Above all, be creative and proud of your accomplishments, dreams and desires to help make our Earth a greener and healthier place for our world tomorrow!
